Electric Vehicles
Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining popularity, yet many new or potential owners have queries. Below, you'll find answers to some frequently asked questions...
The driving range of electric vehicles varies depending on the model and battery size. Generally, EVs can travel between 100 and 400 miles on a single charge. However, factors like weather, driving habits, and cargo weight can affect range.
The upfront cost of an EV can be higher than that of a comparable petrol or diesel vehicles. However, government incentives, lower maintenance expenses and reduced fuelling costs can offset the initial investment over time.
An EV tariff gives you cheaper overnight electricity rates, allowing you to charge your electric vehicle during off-peak hours and pay less for that usage.
Share Energy offers highly competitive rates for EV owners. If you have, or are considering purchasing, an electric vehicle - you can check out our current tariff here.

Yes. To benefit from an EV tariff, you’ll need a day/night meter that tracks daytime and nighttime usage separately.
Just get in touch with your address or MPRN, and we’ll check your setup to confirm if you already qualify or need an upgrade.
We’ll coordinate everything with NIE Networks. We’ll arrange an appointment that suits you, and a qualified engineer will remove your old meter, install the new one, and test it before leaving.
There’s no charge for standard replacements unless you’ve had a meter replaced in the last 12 months.
We follow the '18-day rule'. Once your Share Energy account is active, you must wait 18 days before we can request a meter change on your behalf.
Your supply continues as normal during this time - the rule simply ensures that your account is properly established in the national energy system.
Yes. If your current supplier can arrange a day/night meter change first, you can join Share Energy and move onto an EV tariff straight away. If not, join first and we’ll arrange the meter change once your 18-day bedding-in period is complete.
