Northern Ireland’s lowest earners now have less than £53 a week to spend after essentials. That should shock us all.
The latest figures from the Consumer Council are stark — and should serve as a wake-up call. For too many households, energy bills aren’t just another line on the budget. They’re a source of daily anxiety, consuming a disproportionate share of already limited income.
At Share Energy, we believe affordable energy is a right, not a luxury. That’s why we offer the lowest standard rate in Northern Ireland and return 50% of future profits directly to our customers. But real change won’t come from pricing alone.
The energy system must evolve. The cost-of-living crisis isn’t easing — and while global market prices may shift, the pressure on ordinary families remains constant.
We’re calling for urgent, bold action:
• Better support for low-income households
• Faster smart meter rollout
• Accelerated uptake of low-cost renewable generation
• Renewed momentum in local renewable development.

If we’re serious about tackling fuel poverty and building a resilient, fair energy future, these changes can’t wait.
If you're struggling — you're not alone. And we’re here to help.
